Durham College was started in 1967 and is in the city of Durham, Ontario. At the time Durham College opened, there were 15 portable classrooms with 205 students and 14 teachers. It then offered classes in business, technology, and the applied arts.Durham College now offers a wide range of full-time, online certificate and diploma courses in fields like media, art, general arts, justice, health, skilled trade, and engineering. There is also a campus in Whitby and a learning site in Pickering, in addition to the branch in Oshawa. The college also puts on camps for cooking, sewing, beauty, and fashion.
Durham College has more than 13,600 full-time students in post-secondary programs and apprenticeships. More than 2,000 of these students are from over 60 different countries. More than 91,000 people who went to the college are now living all over the world. It also has about 800 full-time faculty and staff and about 1,270 part-time faculty and staff.Also, in Port Perry, Uxbridge, Oshawa, Beaverton, Port Hope, and Bowmanville, Durham College runs community employment services. Also, Durham College gives students options for living on campus. Also, the college campus has places to shop, get medical care, park, have fun, and eat.
All of the campuses have bookstores, gyms, ice rinks, places to study and use laptops, places to work out, libraries, lockers, and fields. The Student Association (SA) also puts on events and programs for students from all fields. There have been a number of well-known people who went to Durham College. President and CEO of Sure Energy Inc. Jeffrey S. Boyce took part in the General Business - Marketing program (1980). Tyler Boyco is an artist, a musician, and a filmmaker. In 2014, he made a portrait of Robin Williams that made waves on the Internet. He was in the 2014 program for Digital Video Production.

For students who want to gain the most recent skills required by business application developers in industry but want to graduate sooner than is permitted by the three-year Computer Programmer/Analyst degree, there is a two-year diploma program in computer programming. Using the most recent versions of Microsoft, Java, and open-source technologies to create commercial and online applications, the program places an emphasis on problem-solving abilities. Programming skills, agile approaches, and object-oriented design and analysis are all mastered and used throughout the program.
