Southern Cross University, which comprises campuses in New South Wales, southeast Queensland, Lismore, and Coffs Harbour, is located on Australia's east coast. On the university's Coffs Harbour campus is the National Marine Science Centre. Working together with EduCo allows the branch campuses in Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney to function. The institution runs the Hotel Schools in Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne in conjunction with Mulpha Australia.
Degrees are available from Southern Cross University through partnerships with China and Papua New Guinea. Southern Cross University only had 151 students when it was a Teachers College in the 1970s. Back then, it was called Lismore Teachers College. The institution changed its name to Northern Rivers College of Advanced Education in 1973. It changed in the 1990s, and in 1994 it eventually developed into a university with a distinct character. Professor Barry Conyngham served as Southern Cross University's first vice chancellor. In 1995, there were about 95 students from abroad enrolled.
