At St. Lawrence College, the Biotechnology Advanced program is primarily a hands-on, laboratory-based, and practical study. You will do genetic tests, look into tainted soil and water, identify ailments caused by food, clone for proteins, ferment antibiotics, and develop hybrid plants as a student.
According to Statistics Canada, the biotechnology industry is one of the fastest-growing in the world, with Canada offering a strong and expanding employment base, necessitating the need for qualified lab staff. Our program makes use of modern molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, chemistry, biochemistry, fermentation and protein technology, applied genetics, cell culture, environmental, and analytical instrumentation labs to provide hands-on training in all aspects of biotechnology with a focus on the applied skills that guarantee our students are prepared for immediate entry into the workforce. The final 14-week semester of our curriculum is devoted to giving students a chance to learn in the real world by placing them as entry-level biotechnologists at a research or industrial work site.

Scholarship: St. Lawrence College offers over 500 bursaries each year through its Scholarships and Bursaries program. Interested applicants only need to fill out one application to be considered for all bursaries, which usually range from CAD 500 to CAD 3,000.
