The institution of Manitoba (also known as U of M, UManitoba, or UM) is a public research institution in Canada's Manitoba province. It is the first university in western Canada and was established in 1877. The institution of Manitoba is the largest institution in the province of Manitoba and the 17th largest in all of Canada, both in terms of overall student enrollment and campus size. With several campuses spread out over the city, its main campus is situated in the southern Winnipeg neighborhood of Fort Garry. The University of Manitoba operates three more significant campuses in addition to the Fort Garry campus, which serves as its hub: the Bannatyne Campus, the James W. Burns Executive Education Centre, and the William Norrie Centre. The institution also oversees the Winnipeg neighborhood of Saint Boniface's French-language affiliate, Université de Saint-Boniface. The university asserts that it continues to be known as a top research-intensive post-secondary educational institution, conducting more research each year than any other university in the area and consistently ranking among the best in the Canadian Prairies for both its competitive academic and research programs. As a result of research at the University of Manitoba, several well-known contributions have been made, including the development of canola oil in the 1970s. The University of Minnesota is a part of Universities Canada, the U15 group of research-intensive Canadian universities, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities, among other international connections. The Bachelor of Commerce degree offers a comprehensive general business education as well as the chance to focus on one or more majors. To get a bachelor's degree in commerce, applicants to the Asper School of Business must complete 120 credits. The 120 credits are broken up into five sections: - Track 1: The criteria for the listed Track 1 courses must be fulfilled by all students. The first year of the program is typically when these courses are taken. - Basic education: The core, which consists of 54 credit hours of defined mandatory courses from each of Asper's four departments as well as courses provided by additional departments, is a requirement for all students. Years 2 and 3 of the program are when the majority of the core courses are taken. - Two majors: Students can major in two subjects via the program. After finishing several of the fundamental courses that introduce the disciplines that students can major in, students will often select one or two majors at the start of the third year of the program. - Options: A certain number of Asper-taught business courses that are necessary. There are 15 credit hours of choices that students must finish. You can choose options that complement your major, or you can choose business courses from other disciplines to diversify your educational background. - Electives: 12 credits of electives must be taken from faculties other than Asper.
