It provides classes in the following fields: law, medicine, engineering, science, business, education, and the arts. It runs three research institutes and seven research centers that concentrate on a variety of commercial, agricultural, scholarly, scientific, technological, and environmental challenges.

Australia's largest Japanese-designed garden, Australia's largest solar-integrated parking, and a library with rainforest and water elements are among the university's notable features. The university has received praise for its initiatives to reduce violence against women, and the Federal Government's Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) named it an employer of choice for gender equality.

As a regional university, UniSQ makes sure that its curricula meet the needs of the local and regional labor market, participate in regional social and economic development, and support the local community.
