The University of Southern Queensland, also known as UniSQ and formerly known as USQ, is a medium-sized regional university with three campuses located in Toowoomba, Springfield, and Ipswich in Queensland, Australia. It provides classes in the following fields: law, medicine, engineering, science, business, education, and the arts. It runs three research institutes and seven research centers that concentrate on a variety of commercial, agricultural, scholarly, scientific, technological, and environmental challenges.

Australia's largest Japanese-designed garden, Australia's largest solar-integrated parking, and a library with rainforest and water elements are among the university's notable features. The university has received praise for its initiatives to reduce violence against women, and the Federal Government's Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) named it an employer of choice for gender equality.

As a regional university, UniSQ makes sure that its curricula meet the needs of the local and regional labor market, participate in regional social and economic development, and support the local community.

The Master of Professional Engineering (Power Engineering) will offer a pathway if you wish to become a Professional Power Engineer and have a three-year engineering degree from Australia (or a recognized overseas degree equivalent) but no job experience.

With hands-on laboratory sessions and 60 days of industrial experience, the degree places a strong focus on practical experience, comprehensively preparing you for the engineering profession. Build up your understanding of the concepts and practical applications of power electronics, real-time systems, electricity supply and metering, and asset management. You will finish a research project and dissertation in which you will apply all of your academic knowledge to a genuine situation. Your project will shed light on the field of power engineering, whether the topic is smart grids, microgrids, energy storage systems, future electricity distribution, or the harvesting of solar energy. Additionally, the research project and dissertation might serve as a prerequisite for higher-level research degrees like the PhD.

CAREER OUTCOMES

  • You will have a variety of employment options accessible to you, including those in mining, transportation, manufacturing, energy distribution operators, and power plants, thanks to the very practical knowledge and abilities you acquired in the design, building, and management of power production.
  • Along with solar and wind energy, Power Engineers are also at the forefront of alternative power sources and energy storage technologies.
