Located in the seaside city of Wollongong, New South Wales, some 80 kilometers south of Sydney, lies the public research institution known as the institution of Wollongong (abbreviated as UOW). In 2023, the institution had over 33,000 students enrolled (including over 12,300 foreign students), over 176,000 alumni, over 2,400 staff members, including 16 Distinguished professors, and over 2,400 students enrolled.
The University of Wollongong has grown into a multi-campus organization on both a national and international scale. The main campus of the university, located in Wollongong, covers an area of 82.4 hectares and has 94 permanent buildings. It is located on the original location, five kilometers north-west of the city center. As well as three Sydney campuses, including the UOW Sydney Business School, UOW Liverpool, and UOW Sutherland, there are regional university campuses in Bega, Batemans Bay, Moss Vale, and Shoalhaven. UOW has campuses outside of Australia in Dubai, Hong Kong, and places in Malaysia. Additionally, UOW has forged alliances with other institutions of higher learning abroad in China and Singapore.
Nine campuses make up the University of Wollongong in Australia. The university's main site, the Wollongong campus, is situated on the coast of New South Wales, 3 km from downtown Wollongong and 80 km from Sydney. The North Wollongong railway station, which opened in 1915 on the South Coast railway line, serves the area. The Faculty of the Arts, Social Sciences & Humanities, the Faculty of Business and Law, the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences, and the Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health are the four faculties that offer courses. On the Wollongong campus, there are over 2,400 staff members and close to 33,000 total students that attend classes. The campus also has student housing, conference facilities, food halls, supermarkets, cafés, restaurants, a bar, indoor sports facilities, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and sports grounds in addition to the teaching and research buildings. UOW College is located on the Wollongong campus.
The infrastructure for contemporary, improved life is constructed and maintained by civil engineers. Everything from buildings to bridges, tunnels, and dams, as well as motorways, airports, power plants, and water and sewage systems, is planned, designed, built, operated, and maintained by them. Civil engineers create buildings that satisfy the demands of an expanding population while safeguarding the environment, lowering the risks from natural disasters, and taking into account the community's long-term needs using computer technology and sophisticated materials.
Before determining which discipline to pursue, you can learn more about engineering and its various disciplines by enrolling in a common first year of study. The common first year gives you solid foundational knowledge in mechanics, materials, fluids, statistics, physics, chemistry, computing, engineering science, and communication. Then, you concentrate on your second-year main study choice. Your degree involves a 12-week practical work experience in the workplace. Participating in our Professional Options Program will allow you to get credit for relevant job experience you have had, whether it was overseas or in Australia. Construction, mining, resources, aerospace, electronics, engineering management, telecommunications, power generation and distribution, renewable energy, water resource management, robotics and manufacturing, railroad, and shipbuilding are just a few of the industries where engineers work.
You will have access to current computer-aided software utilized in industrial workplaces as an engineering student at UOW and fully-stocked labs. To get the most out of your university education, our professors urge you to contact them and participate in projects and learning opportunities related to industry. Our engineering students receive training through real-world learning opportunities like:
Lab Experiments
Structural engineering, water engineering, geomechanics, engineering management, engineering applications and design, materials and transport, and surveying are among the topics covered in the final years of the Civil Engineering degree. You also have the choice to finish a double major, which combines two engineering specialties, starting in your second year.
The following are possible double major combinations:
Fees:
Tuition: $39456 per year
Scholarship:
30% tuition fee reduction for the minimum duration of an eligible course
IELTS: 6(6)
Academics: 2.8 GPA
