The parliament passed an act in 1897 that resulted in the creation of Victoria University of Wellington. Because it was the 60th anniversary of the Queen's coronation in 1897, it was given her name. Around 17000 students are registered at the institution, of whom 4000 are from other countries. It has three campuses, the main one of which is in Kelburn, New Zealand, and is home to the faculties of engineering, health, social science, and education, as well as the faculties of humanities and social science.
